Serial
numbers of Bausch & Lomb (1876 – 1986)
In
1941, Bausch & Lomb started using serial numbers starting with two
letters. The first letter represented the year of manufacture (see table
below). The second letter represented the type of instrument: letters B,
D, K, L, M, N and P (only for objectives) for microscopes, microtomes and
accessories, colorimeters, refractometers, saccharimeters, spectroscopes and
spectrometers; and letters E, R and Y for projectors,
photomicrographic equipment, micro-projectors and
accessories. Year of
manufacture according to the first letter at the beginning of serial numbers
(after 1941 and until 1963)
From 1964,
the same sequence of letters was reused until 1985, but letters were placed
at the end of the serial numbers. Year of
manufacture according to the first letter at the end of serial numbers (after
1964 and until 1986)
